Exhibition, day 2

Good morning
The forecast was wrong — it's a clear day in Kashiwabara

Day two of the exhibition of original works has begun

On the first day, she enjoyed seeing people she hadn't met in a long while.
Who will come today, I wonder?
We look forward to your visit.

[Solo exhibition]

For the first time in several years, I'm holding an exhibition and sale of my paintings.

The invitation card — my first in more than fifteen years — came back from the printer today.

This time I'll be at the gallery every day, hoping to share as much time as I can and talk with everyone who comes. (I plan to be there 10:00–17:00 every day.)

In my twenties, although I was given the chance to exhibit here and there in Tokyo, I believed "the artist should stay behind the scenes", and I had almost no chance to meet the visitors.

Now, having a family and having been through caregiving and raising children, I feel again how precious it is to connect with people through the work.

The Watanabe family I married into, and the Yamamoto house we inherited, had many picture frames. Some were made by hand by my father-in-law, who was a joiner. I've been polishing and repainting those frames, and framing the paintings I've accumulated one by one.

I've also been filing, for easy viewing, the pictures I made for design-related work — leaflets, flyers, logos, book covers.

You can see them together with records of the installation works I made before coming to Shiga.

I hope to show a little of the animation I made for installations in the past, too.

The venue is a gallery-cum-studio run by a friend who is a glass artist.

You can also enjoy my friend's delicate, intricate glass works.

Nearby there is a roadside station, a superb bakery, and a restaurant serving lunch of enzyme brown rice and home-grown vegetables; a short drive away is a shrine where you can draw delicious spring water.

Until the opening, alongside the rice harvest that began at the end of last month, I'll keep preparing to make the show as inviting as I can. Please do come.
